LISTEN WHILE YOU READ!!
It's been a year that I started
in this new world of Skype, blogs, exchanging languages.... etc. so I thought
that I could tell you a story....
Once upon a time there was a girl
who loved English, she did not know where that interest in the language came
from but she dreamed of being able to talk in English fluently and who knows??
Having contact with native speakers.
Not only was she interested in
the language, but also in the culture of the English-speaking countries, she
liked the music above all and she learnt a lot from it.
A year ago in a very hot day she
was a bit bored at home. Suddenly she had a great idea "There must be some
place to practice English on the internet with natives... to exchange
languages" she thought. In less than a minute she found a couple of
websites that seemed good but she found out that she had to download a new program,
it was called Skype so she downloaded it, at first sight it seemed like the MSN
Messenger.... what was the point of downloading a new program that was
"the same" as another one she already had? "Maybe they use it
more in other countries" she thought. The idea of talking to people from
all around the world was very attractive to her but after a couple of days she
felt a bit discourage, no one answered her so she kept on searching for new
websites...
Two weeks later something
happened! She had a contact on Skype and a contact on MSN (you know who you are),
it was unbelievable! She was able to speak by voice on Skype with a native for
one hour and she spoke every night with the person on MSN. It seemed that it
was going to be an exciting summer... a few days ago she thought that it was
going to be a boring summer because she had no job, nothing to study and not so
many friends, she had been a bit down since some months ago and she went from
never coming online, to coming online every single day because she had a
new motivation, something that she liked, an incentive...
The months passed, she spoke
everyday with new people and she started to have very good friends on the
internet, it may sound a bit exaggerated but her life changed.
A year later, her dream came
true! She feels so lucky because she has found such great people to talk to, to
share things, thoughts and feelings. It doesn't matter that she only knows them
on the internet and not in person, she is certain that she knows some of these
people better that many people in "real life" and these people know
her very well too. In other words, she has new FRIENDS and she hopes to have
them for many years... no... even better... forever.
